The Canadian Medical Association says Alberta has put a dual-practice model in place, so physicians can divide time between public and private care. President Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi argues that split does not add capacity, and asks Health Minister Marjorie Michel to enforce the Canada Health Act. The association says nearly six million Canadians do not have access to primary care.

Health Canada says Minister Mark Holland and B.C. Health Minister Josie Osborne signed an agreement to invest more than $670 million over four years in contraceptive and diabetes medications, devices, and supplies. The department says the funding is meant to cover more than 1.3 million people for contraception and nearly 550,000 people with diabetes, with residents expected to begin receiving that coverage in March 2026.

Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care says new HIV cases rose to 328 in 2025 from 90 in 2019. The province’s 2024 rate was 19.5 cases per 100,000 people, against a national rate of 5.5. Officials are launching an HIV Response Steering Committee. More than half of cases are among females, and the province says the most common routes of spread are injection drug use and unprotected heterosexual sex.

Nova Scotia Health says the Care Coordination Centre’s provincial transfer hub, working with Emergency Health Services, coordinated more than 72,000 patient transfers in its first year, about 10,000 more than the year before. After-hours transfers rose by 2,432, a 16 percent increase. The authority says the hub was built to shorten delays caused by limited bed visibility and long coordination calls.

The Ontario government says it is investing $10 million to advance plans for a new Southlake Health acute-care hospital in East Gwillimbury and the redevelopment of the existing hospital in Newmarket. The province says the projects are meant to connect more than 250,000 people in northern York Region and southern Simcoe County to hospital care closer to home.

Santé et Services sociaux released a government policy on front-line care, framed as a way to match services more closely to people and communities. The policy is meant to make primary care more accessible and better coordinated, with interdisciplinary teams closer to communities, a better experience of care, and stronger support for staff.

SaskToday reports that the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s Sept. 26 afternoon update listed emergency disruptions at 11 facilities. St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville was interrupted from 7 a.m. Sept. 26 until 7 a.m. Sept. 28, and the Preeceville and District Health Centre was affected through the afternoon of Sept. 27. The authority describes temporary disruptions as a last resort and directs patients to HealthLine 811.

CBC News, using figures the territorial health department verified, reports that rural health centres had no nursing services on 214 days between August 2025 and August 2026. Closures or reduced service continued this fall in Beaver Creek, Carcross, Faro, Ross River, and Teslin. The department says the community-care model is under review, and that some emergency, travel, and physician services can continue when a centre is closed.
